Shady White Wednesday

I am so drawn to all kinds of lampshade silhouettes.  How fun would it be to design and create lampshades?  It must be a wonderful job.   Bending wire into interesting shapes and then dressing them with beautiful fabrics.

I have had these white lamps on the
  black sofa table forever,
they have been all over the house.
Now placed in one of my favorite spots in the family room,  they add nice lighting over the sofa.

My grandmother would probably not understand this display of her lampshades....
The fabric came off many years ago and I have  thought many times about covering them..so glad I haven't.

I'm not sure why....but I can't walk away from a vintage lamp shade...
they are just great looking...
such pretty lines and shapes..
they get me every time!!

Joining White Wednesday again this week...
Check it out...so many pretties!
Thank you Kathleen for hosting.

Strut Your Stuff Monday

Throughout the week, I like many others..and I know you're out there, visit antique shops, hunt in thrift stores,  dig at great garage sales and just look for bargains anywhere you can find them.

And if you are like me I can't wait to show friends and family my fun finds and tell them about the great deals. So, I have decided that my Mondays here at My Creative Life Diary will be a day I post about what I have found in the previous week.

First
"Strut Your Stuff Monday"

Adding to my small collection of wedding cake toppers ....I found this darling vintage bank at a fun antique mall in the city...one side is the new bride and groom and the other is....well you get the idea.  Love!

Wanting to change up my Halloween decorations..
this masquerade doll ..found at The Rink will give me the inspiration I need to get started.

Ok...the truth is I did find this great clock this past week...only here at the house.  Forgot I had bought it several months ago.  Maybe I should go shopping in the closet more often.

Way to early for Easter Decor...but I could not resist the chick above.  Plan on adding a paper hat and ruffles to this little guy.

The mini couple above are the perfect size for a
cupcake wedding topper.  They are just darling.  LOVE!

Now, for my Mini Pearl moment...I ask Mister Mister to go by Home Depot to see if the chandelier I saw last week was still there.  He did ....it was the last one..
Once it was removed from display, he was told it was even cheaper..clearance price $44.00 ...then he noticed some of the droplets were missing,  doesn't hurt to ask and he got it for $25.00.

Thank you for visiting my first...
"Strut Your Stuff Monday"
Drop me a note, I would love to see some of your recently purchased treasures.
Have a great week and happy hunting!

"Stop and Smell The Roses"

With the extreme heat and drought here in Oklahoma the flowers in my garden are few, but inside they flourish.

Thank goodness for artists who are so talented and enjoy painting flowers.
Have a great weekend and remember to stop and smell the roses.

White Swans...and just one pink one!

The antique framed print below hung in my great grandmothers home forever.  And now hangs in mine.  I loved it growing up and even more now.

So much so that I have filled our guest bathroom with a mix of vintage swan figurines and my favorite, paint by number paintings.

Gotta have a pink one!
I have plans for this artwork I found in an antique dictionary....maybe a burlap pillow for the living room.   If you also love it...please feel free to save and create something for your home.
Enjoy!

The Words Just Flew Right Off The Page

It started out like many of my other collections...I found one antique book...then another.  Now they have all taken over the antique black cabinet in our family room.

Sometimes it's the artwork others it's the content...tattered, faded and long out of print, they all have character.

The sweet little framed prints are used to embellish the books.

Most of my antique books came from thrift stores.
None are probably worth much more then I paid for them.

The book displayed under glass is one of my favorites....
"How And What To Read"
The four books to either side are part of a volume of Mark Twain books....
still looking for others to complete the set.

Perched on top is a dollar store bird that I decoupaged using newspaper.  I always thought it would be funny to put a little sign next to the bird saying
"This book was so good the words just flew right off the page!"

Weathered...chipped...but better

I love the flowers in the planters around
our umbrella tree.  They give us so much joy and color.

It has been unbelievably
hot this summer here in Oklahoma.
We will soon beat the record of over 50 days of 100 degrees or more.  Believe it or not, it got to 114 heat index at my house.

Yes,  these are those inexpensive grey plastic planters painted white.  With the sun beaming down on them and my constant watering they
have chipped areas.
Such a long summer in the heat ....looking for that silver lining , I found it in my planters....
The heat may have gotten to me but....
I love them .....weathered but so much better.

Updated Kitchen Island

Yesterday's project was so easy and fast....using several sheets of foam board..batting..glue..2 1/2 yds. of designer fabric ...and with the help of mister mister..we had updated our kitchen island area.

I know....bummer .... I just need a 3 X 22 inch strip
of fabric to complete...fabric store is 50 miles away.
So will have to wait until next week. Was so excited about the new look ....I had to post anyway!
Have you seen
White Wednesdays
over at Faded Charm....I just linked up with
some amazing creative people.

Summer 2011

In June lots of our friends and relatives joined us for a fun backyard party.

We hired a friend who has a traveling concession stand to cater our backyard party.
It was a big hit....corn dogs, fresh squeezed
lemonade, potato curls and funnel cakes.
So fun....

I decided to decorate using patriotic colors....knowing I could use all of the decorations for our family July 4th get together.

4th of July 2011

Who would have thought July 4th....that we would leave the tent up well into August....since the temperatures in Oklahoma
were above 100 everyday for 30 plus days.

Oh....and
I broke my foot....mid July...so not fun!

Aaron and Marci's Reveal Party!

I helped friend, Becky...put together a sweet little party for her
son and daughter in law. Guests were asked to guess whether it was a
girl or boy using chalk ....mark it on the Chalkboard.
She had the ultra sound that morning and
that evening they opened up "the envelope" with the message saying...

It's a BOY!

Played with my sweet grand baby.....
every chance I got!
